Antioch's rare first dynastic emission
Lot 5487
Crispus, Caesar, 316-326. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.46 g, 12 h), Antiochia, July 325 (?). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Crispus to left. Rev. CRISPVS / CAE•SAR / SMANTЄ in three lines; above, star. RIC 53. Rare. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The first dynastic emission from Antioch, with no dot under the mint mark, is much rarer than the second emission, with only a quarter as many examples recorded. In addition, coins for Crispus were withdrawn when he fell from grace in July 326 (Ramskold, Aborted production [2020b]), and today, his coins from this emission are recorded in far lower numbers than those for Constantine I and the other two Caesars.
